The story

I had seen the far side of the Moon thousands of times before I arrived there. Images, maps, theories, stories invented around everything we could never see from Earth.

Standing on it was different.

The ground beneath me was covered in ancient dust, fractured stone and small pieces of glass created by impacts long before anyone was here to witness them. The whole landscape carried the stillness of something that had remained unchanged for millions of years.

Then I began to notice the violet light.

It seemed to exist inside the surface rather than above it, pale and almost transparent, spreading quietly through the mineral ground.

As I moved closer, I could smell it.

The scent and the light seemed to belong to the same presence, something woven into the landscape itself. I could feel that I was standing beside a form of life, even though everything I knew about life told me I should be looking for something else.

Other Side of the Moon is the scent of that encounter.
